![]() 1/13 Ouverture du Festival - première sortie May 18, 2006 Report from the South of France MediaPackBoard: Yesterday was the opening of the 59th Cannes Film Festival. In spite of small scandals and mild critiques documented in Nice-Matin, thousands of those who make it all happen - the Public amassed outside Le Palais des Festivals for a glimpse of directors and stars arriving for the première of The Da Vinci Code. The main action to witness was the crush of fans; the black tie media personalities “papparatziing” each arrival; and the giant screen of red carpet action. Although the screen was at least as interesting as any large scale cinema, not being able to view the red carpet through the crush of photographers demanded a leap of faith to relate the scenes on the screen to any simultaneous live event. A short time later, as the sun was setting, Canal+ aired a variety show featuring TV personalities and famous actors such as Alain Delon on the Croisette. MediaPackBoard was there as well, mingling with the strolling audience to screen new video works. Video drama production in Vallauris: This morning, we were out at dawn to videotape our own star in scenes from La Dauphine et le Cordonnier. With long wet hair, Garance Picqué climbed barefoot through the ancient streets of Picasso town. The shots were interlaced with intervals of people popping out to walk and drive to work on scooters; and city workers cleaning streets and collecting garbage. Ms. Picqué was stunning as the woman newly emerged from the sea. |
